شابٌّ سَخِيٌّ مُرَهَّقٌ في الذُّنوبِ أحَبُّ إلى اللَّهِ عزّوجلّ مِن شَيخٍ عابِدٍ بَخيلٍ .

Imam Ja‘far al-Ṣadiq (as):

A generous youth burdened by sins is more beloved to Allah than a worshipping but miserly old man.

وقال عليه السلام لجابر بن عبدالله الاَنصاري: يَا جَابِرُ، قِوَامُ الدِّينِ وَ الدُّنْيَا بِأَرْبَعَةٍ: عَالِمٍ مُسْتَعْمِلٍ عِلْمَهُ، وَجَاهِلٍ لاَ يَسْتَنْكِفُ أَنْ يَتَعَلَّمَ، وَجَوَادٍ لاَ يَبْخَلُ بِمَعْرُوفِهِ، وَفَقِيرٍ لاَ يَبِيعُ آخِرَتَهُ بِدُنْيَاهُ؛ فَإِذَا ضَيَّعَ الْعَالِمُ عِلْمَهُ اسْتَنْكَفَ الْجَاهِلُ أَنْ يَتَعَلَّمَ، وَإِذَا بَخِلَ الْغَنِيُّ بِمَعْرُوفِهِ بَاعَ الْفَقِيرُ آخِرَتَهُ بِدُنْيَاهُ

Imam Ali (as):

Imam Ali (AS) said to Jabir ibn 'Abdullah al-Ansari': O Jabir, the mainstay of religion and the world are four persons: The scholar who acts on his knowledge; the ignorant who does not refrains from learning; the generous who is not niggardly in his favors; and the destitute who does not sell his next life for his worldly benefits. Consequently, when the scholar wastes his knowledge [and does not act upon it], the ignorant refrains from learning, and when the generous is niggardly with his favors, the destitute sells his next life for worldly benefits. "

إِنَّ لِلَّهِ عِبَاداً يَخْتَصُّهُمْ بِالنِّعَمِ لِمَنَافِعِ الْعِبَادِ، فَيُقِرُّهَا فِي أَيْدِيهِمْ مَا بَذَلُوهَا، فَإِذَا مَنَعُوهَا نَزَعَهَا مِنْهُمْ، ثُمَّ حَوَّلَهَا إِلَى غَيْرِهِمْ

Imam Ali (as):

God has singled out some servants for particular blessings to use for the benefit of all—He leaves them in their hands as long as they give them to others, but if they withhold, He takes them back and entrusts them to others.

Imam Ali (as):

Habituate yourself to Leniency and choose from every set of traits the best of them, for goodness can be adopted by making it a habit.

عَلَيْكَ بِالسَّخَاءِ وَ حُسْنِ الْخُلُقِ، فَإِنَّهُمَا يُزَيِّنَانِ الرَّجُلَ كَمَا تُزَيِّنُ الْوَاسِطَةُ الْقِلَادَةَ .

Imam Ja‘far al-Ṣadiq (as):

You must adopt generosity and good naturedness for they adorn man just as a gemstone adorns a neckless.

السَّخِيُّ قَرِيبٌ مِنَ اللَّهِ وَ قَرِيبٌ مِنَ النَّاسِ وَ قَرِيبٌ مِنَ الْجَنَّةِ بَعِيدٌ مِنَ النَّار .

The Prophet Muhammad (S):

The generous person is close to Allah, close to people and close to Paradise, and far away from the Fire.

الإمام جعفر الصادق (عليه السَّلام ):

الامام الصادق «ع»- عن هشام بن سالم (محمد) قال: كَانَ أَبُو عَبْدِ اللَّهِ «ع»إِذَا أَعْتَمَ وَ ذَهَبَ مِنَ اللَّيْلِ شَطْرُهُ أَخَذَ جِرَاباً فِيهِ خُبْزٌ وَ لَحْمٌ وَ الدَّرَاهِمُ فَحَمَلَهُ عَلَى عُنُقِهِ ثُمَّ ذَهَبَ بِهِ إِلَى أَهْلِ الْحَاجَةِ مِنْ أَهْلِ الْمَدِينَةِ فَقَسَمَهُ فِيهِمْ وَ لَا يَعْرِفُونَهُ فَلَمَّا مَضَى أَبُو عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ع فَقَدُوا ذَلِكَ فَعَلِمُوا أَنَّهُ كَانَ أَبَا عَبْدِ اللَّهِ «ع».

Imam Ja‘far al-Ṣadiq (as):

Hisham b. Salim narrated, 'When it was dark and part of the night had passed, Abu Abdillah (Imam al-Sadiq) (AS) would take a sack of bread, meat, and money, and carry it on his back to the needy of Medina. He would distribute it among them without them even recognizing him. When Abu Abdillah (AS) passed away, they missed the aid and realized that it had in fact been Abu Abdillah.'
