Imam al-Sajjad (as):
O son of Adam! You will continue to be good as long as you have an advisor within yourself, … and insofar as fear is your undergarment, and caution is your clothing.

The Prophet Muhammad (S):
There are four distinguishing marks of the humble ones: they are constantly mindful of God in private as well as in public, they carry out good works, they reflect on the Day of Resurrection, and engage in intimate supplication with Allah.

Imam Ja‘far al-Ṣadiq (as):
Verily the love of high ranks and publicity do not exist in the heart of one who is awed and fearful [of Allah].

Imam al-Kazim (as):
You must adopt earnestness, and always assume yourself to be falling short in God's worship and His obedience, for verily God is never worshipped as He aught to be worshipped.

The Prophet Muhammad (S):
When humbleness of the body surpasses that which is in the heart then in our view it is hypocrisy.

Imam Muhammad al-Baqir (as):
Verily a servant pleads to Allah for his need and Allah delays its fulfilment out of love for his voice and hearing his lamentation. By Allah, Allah's delaying the fulfilment of what the believers ask of worldly needs is better for them than His answering their prayers quickly.

Imam Ja‘far al-Ṣadiq (as):
Every eye will cry on the Day of Judgment except for three: an eye that looked away from things prohibited by Allah, an eye that stayed up [in worship] for the sake of Allah, and an eye that filled with tears in the middle of the night out of fear of Allah.

Imam Muhammad al-Baqir (as):
No drop is more beloved to Allah Almighty than a teardrop shed by a servant in the darkness of the night for fear of Allah by which nothing is sought out except for Allah's pleasure.

Imam Ja‘far al-Ṣadiq (as):
Every single thing has a measure or weight except for tears; for even one drop of tears can extinguish seas of fire. When one's eyes are filled with tears, neither gloom nor shame will come over his face, and when tears start to role down from one's cheeks, God will make it forbidden for the fire to touch them, and when someone from among a community weeps, God bestows His mercy on the entire community.
