الإمام علي (عليه السَّلام):

عَلامةُ الاْيمَانِ أَنْ تُؤثِرَ الصِّدْقَ حَيْثُ يَضُرُّكَ عَلَى الْكَذِبِ حَيْثُ يَنْفَعُكَ، أَنْ يَكُونَ فِي حَديِثِكَ فَضْلٌ عَنْ عِلْمِكَ وَأَنْ تَتَّقِيَ اللهَ فِي حَدِيثِ غَيْرِكَ

Imam Ali (as):

True belief is this: to prefer a truth that hurts you over a falsehood that benefits you, to ensure that your words don’t outpace your deeds, and to fear God when speaking about others.

الإمام علي (عليه السَّلام):

يَنْبَغِي لِلرَّجُلِ الْمُسْلِمِ أَنْ يَجْتَنِبَ مُوَاخَاةَ الْكَذَّابِ فَإِنَّهُ يَكْذِبُ حَتَّى يَجِي‏ءَ بِالصِّدْقِ فَلَا يُصَدَّقُ .

Imam Ali (as):

It does not behoove a Muslim to take a liar for a brother for he keeps lying until such a time when even his true statements are rejected.

خَيْرُ إِخْوَانِكَ مَنْ دَعَاكَ إِلَى صِدْقِ الْمَقَالِ بِصِدْقِ مَقَالِهِ وَ نَدَبَكَ إِلَى أَفْضَلِ الْأَعْمَالِ بِحُسْنِ أَعْمَالِهِ .

Imam Ali (as):

The best of your fellow brothers is the one who draws you to truthful speech through his own truthfulness and encourages you to perform good deeds through his own doing of good.

الإمام جعفر الصادق (عليه السَّلام ):

الصَّدَاقَةُ مَحْدُودَةٌ فَمَنْ لَمْ تَكُنْ فِيهِ تِلْكَ الْحُدُودُ فَلَا تَنْسُبْهُ إِلَى كَمَالِ الصَّدَاقَةِ ... أَوَّلُهَا أَنْ تَكُونَ سَرِيرَتُهُ وَ عَلَانِيَتُهُ لَكَ وَاحِدَةً وَ الثَّانِيَةُ أَنْ يَرَى زَيْنَكَ زَيْنَهُ وَ شَيْنَكَ شَيْنَه .‏

Imam Ja‘far al-Ṣadiq (as):

Friendship has certain conditions and bounds and he who does not observe them cannot be considered a perfect friend… The first of those conditions is that his inner and his outer are the same for you, and the second is that your source of pride is a source of pride for him, and your source of shame is a source of shame for him.

خيرُ إخْوانِكَ مَن سارَعَ إلى الخيرِ و جَذَبَكَ إلَيهِ ، و أمَرَكَ بالبِرِّ و أعانَكَ علَيهِ ، خَيْرُ إِخْوَانِكَ مَنْ دَعَاكَ إِلَى صِدْقِ الْمَقَالِ بِصِدْقِ مَقَالِه‏ .

Imam Ali (as):

The best of your brothers is the one who rushes towards good and draws you towards it, enjoins you to do good and helps you with it and invites you to the truthfulness of speech by being truthful in his own speech.

Imam Ali (as):

Faith is to prefer to tell the truth, even if it be to your detriment, over lying even though it be to your benefit, that your speech does not exceed the limits of your knowledge, and that you fear Allah when narrating the statements of others.

رسول الله (صلی الله علیه و آله):

إنّ أقرَبَكُم مِنّي غَدا و أوجَبَكُم عَلَيَّ شَفاعَةً : أصدَقُكُم لِسانا ، و أدّاكُم لِلأمانَةِ ، و أحسَنُكُم خُلُقا ، و أقرَبُكُم مِنَ الناسِ .

The Prophet Muhammad (S):

Verily the closest from among you to me tomorrow [in the Hereafter], and the most eligible of you for my intercession are those who are the most truthful from amongst you, the most conscientious at returning a trust placed in their care, the most good-natured, and the ones who have close ties with people.

الإمام جعفر الصادق (عليه السَّلام ):

إنَّ اللّه عزّ و جلّ لَم يَبْعثْ نَبيّا إلاّ بصِدقِ الحديثِ و أداءِ الأمانةِ إلَى البَرِّ و الفاجرِ .

Imam Ja‘far al-Ṣadiq (as):

Allah did not send anyone as a prophet unless they possessed two qualities: they were truthful in speech and they would return a trust to its owner be he good or wicked.

الإمام جعفر الصادق (عليه السَّلام ):

انْظُرْ ما بَلغَ بهِ عليٌّ عليه السلام عندَ رسولِ اللّهِ صلى الله عليه و آله ، فإنَّ عليّا عليه السلام إنّما بَلغَ ما بَلغَ بهِ عندَ رسولِ اللّهِ صلى الله عليه و آله بصِدقِ الحديثِ و أداءِ الأمانةِ .

Imam Ja‘far al-Ṣadiq (as):

Look at the status Ali attained with the prophet (as), verily Ali reached the status he had with the prophet (s) through truthfulness in his speech and his prompt return of goods entrusted in his care.
