الْحِدَّةُ ضَرْبٌ مِنَ الْجُنُونِ لِأَنَّ صَاحِبَهَا يَنْدَمُ فَإِنْ لَمْ يَنْدَمْ فَجُنُونُهُ مُسْتَحْكِمٌ
Imam Ali (as):
Rage is a type of madness because the one enraged feels regret later on, and if he does not feel regret, then his madness has become ingrained.

فَتَعَصَّبُوا لِخِلَالِ الْحَمْدِ مِنَ الْحِفْظِ لِلْجِوَارِ وَ الْوَفَاءِ بِالذِّمَامِ وَ الطَّاعَةِ لِلْبِرِّ وَ الْمَعْصِيَةِ لِلْكِبْرِ وَ الْأَخْذِ بِالْفَضْلِ وَ الْكَفِّ عَنِ الْبَغْيِ ... وَ الْإِنْصَافِ لِلْخَلْقِ وَ الْكَظْمِ لِلْغَيْظ وَ اجْتِنَابِ الْفَسَادِ فِي الْأَرْض .‏
Imam Ali (as):
If you absolutely must be partisans to a cause, then let your partisanship be for virtuous qualities such as protection of the neighbor, fulfillment of agreements, obedience to the virtuous, opposition to the haughty, generosity towards others, abstention from rebellion... being just to people, suppressing anger and keeping away from causing corruption on the earth.

أَ لاَ أُخْبِرُكُمْ بِأَشْبَهِكُمْ بِي قَالُوا بَلَى يَا رَسُولَ اَللَّهِ ، قَالَ أَحْسَنُكُمْ خُلُقاً وَ أَلْيَنُكُمْ كَنَفاً وَ أَبَرُّكُمْ بِقَرَابَتِهِ وَ أَشَدُّكُمْ حُبّاً لِإِخْوَانِهِ فِي دِينِهِ وَ أَصْبَرُكُمْ عَلَى اَلْحَقِّ وَ أَكْظَمُكُمْ لِلْغَيْظِ وَ أَحْسَنُكُمْ عَفْواً وَ أَشَدُّكُمْ مِنْ نَفْسِهِ إِنْصَافاً فِي اَلرِّضَا وَ اَلْغَضَبِ .
The Prophet Muhammad (S):
The Prophet once asked his companions, ‘Shall I inform you who amongst you resemble me the most?’ They replied, ‘Yes O Messenger of Allah.' He then said, ‘They are those who are the best of you in character, the most lenient of you in their treatment of others, the kindest of you to their near ones, the most loving of you towards their fellow brothers, the most patient of you with the truth, those who are the best in restraining their anger and pardoning others, and the ones who best maintain fairness when pleased or angered.'

لَا يَكُونَنَّ أَفْضَلُ مَا نِلْتَ مِنْ دُنْيَاكَ بُلُوغَ لَذَّةٍ أَوْ شِفَاءَ غَيْظٍ وَ لْيَكُنْ إِحْيَاءَ حَقٍّ وَ إِمَاتَةَ بَاطِلٍ .
Imam Ali (as):
Let not your greatest achievement in this world be gaining a pleasure or venting your anger, but [let it be] the revival of a right and putting an end to falsehood.

ما مِن عَبدٍ كَظَمَ غَيظا إلاّ زادَهُ اللّهُ عَزَّ و جلَّ عِزّا في الدّنيا و الآخِرَةِ .
Imam Ja‘far al-Ṣadiq (as):
Every single servant who swallows his anger is increased in honour by Allah, Mighty and Exalted, in this world and in the Hereafter.

يَا شِيعَةَ آلِ مُحَمَّدٍ، اعْلَمُوا أَنَّهُ لَيْسَ مِنَّا مَنْ لَمْ يَمْلِكْ نَفْسَهُ عِنْدَ غَضَبِهِ.
Imam Ja‘far al-Ṣadiq (as):
O Shi'a of the Family of Muhammad, know that the one who does not control himself when he gets angry is not of us.

وَ مَنْ كَفَّ غَضَبَهُ عَنِ النَّاسِ كَفَّ اللَّهُ تَبَارَكَ وَ تَعَالى‏ عَنْهُ عَذَابَ يَوْمِ الْقِيَامَةِ.
Imam Ja‘far al-Ṣadiq (as):
Whoever curbs his anger from people Allah, Blessed and most High, will curb His punishment from him on the Day of Resurrection.

Imam Ja‘far al-Ṣadiq (as):
Anger is a destroyer of the wise man's heart, whoever cannot control his anger will not be able to control his intellect.

أَوْحَى اللَّهُ عَزَّ وَ جَلَّ إِلى‏ بَعْضِ أَنْبِيَائِهِ: يَا ابْنَ آدَمَ، اذْكُرْنِي فِي غَضَبِكَ؛ أَذْكُرْكَ فِي غَضَبِي، لَا أَمْحَقْكَ فِيمَنْ أَمْحَقُ، وَ ارْضَ بِي مُنْتَصِراً؛ فَإِنَّ انْتِصَارِي لَكَ خَيْرٌ مِنِ انْتِصَارِكَ لِنَفْسِكَ.
Imam Ja‘far al-Ṣadiq (as):
Allah revealed to one of His prophets, 'O son of Adam, remember Me during your anger and I will remember you during My anger, and I will not destroy you as a result with those whom I destroy and be content with My help for you, for My help for you is better than your help for yourself.'

مَكْتُوبٌ فِي التَّوْرَاةِ فِيمَا نَاجَى اللَّهُ عَزَّ وَ جَلَّ بِهِ‏ مُوسى‏ عليه السلام: يَا مُوسى‏، أَمْسِكْ‏ غَضَبَكَ عَمَّنْ مَلَّكْتُكَ عَلَيْهِ؛ أَكُفَ‏ عَنْكَ غَضَبِي‏.
Imam Ja‘far al-Ṣadiq (as):
It is written in the Torah as part of what Allah, the Exalted, told Prophet Moses (as), 'O Moses, Refrain from venting your anger on the one over whom I have given you authority, and I will keep My anger from you.
