الإمام علي (عليه السَّلام):

لَا تَجْعَلُوا عِلْمَكُمْ جَهْلًا وَ يَقِينَكُمْ شَكّاً إِذَا عَلِمْتُمْ فَاعْمَلُوا وَ إِذَا تَيَقَّنْتُمْ فَأَقْدِمُوا

Imam Ali (as):

Do not turn your knowledge into ignorance or your conviction into doubt. When you gain knowledge act (upon it) and when you acquire conviction proceed (on its basis).

[لِرَجُلٍ سَأَلَهُ أَنْ يَعِظَهُ لَا تَكُنْ مِمَّنْ] تَغْلِبُهُ نَفْسُهُ عَلَى مَا يَظُنُّ وَ لَا يَغْلِبُهَا عَلَى مَا يَسْتَيْقِنُ

Imam Ali (as):

Imam Ali (AS) said to a man soliciting advice from him, 'Do not be like the one who... his heart overpowers him by means of imaginary things while he cannot control his heart by his conviction.'

أَحْيِ قَلْبَكَ بِالْمَوْعِظَةِ وَ أَمِتْهُ بِالزَّهَادَةِ وَ قَوِّهِ بِالْيَقِينِ وَ نَوِّرْهُ بِالْحِكْمَةِ وَ ذَلِّلْهُ بِذِكْرِ الْمَوْتِ وَ قَرِّرْهُ بِالْفَنَاءِ وَ بَصِّرْهُ فَجَائِعَ الدُّنْيَا.

Imam Ali (as):

Revive your heart with exhortations, and kill it will asceticism, strengthen it with conviction, enlighten it with wisdom, subdue it by remembering death, make it acknowledge mortality, make it see the misfortunate of this world.

عَلَامَةُ الْإِيمَانِ أَنْ تُؤْثِرَ الصِّدْقَ حَيْثُ يَضُرُّكَ عَلَى الْكَذِبِ حَيْثُ يَنْفَعُكَ وَ أَنْ لَا يَكُونَ فِي حَدِيثِكَ فَضْلٌ عَنْ عِلْمِكَ وَ أَنْ تَتَّقِيَ اللَّهَ فِي حَدِيثِ غَيْرِكَ.

Imam Ali (as):

Faith is to prefer to tell the truth, even if it be to your detriment, over lying even though it be to your benefit, that your speech does not exceed the limits of your knowledge, and that you fear Allah when narrating the statements of others.

الإمام محمد الباقر (عليه السَّلام):

المؤمنُ أصْلَبُ مِن الجَبلِ ، الجَبلُ يُسْتَقَلُّ مِنه ، و المؤمنُ لا يُسْتَقَلُّ مِن دِينِه شَيءٌ .

Imam Muhammad al-Baqir (as):

The believer is harder than a mountain, for the mountain is dispensable whereas nothing can be taken away from a believer’s religion.

الإمام جعفر الصادق (عليه السَّلام ):

المؤمنُ لَه قوّةٌ في دِينٍ ، و حَزْمٌ في لِينٍ ، و إيمانٌ في يقينٍ ، و حِرْصٌ في فِقهٍ ، و نَشاطٌ في هُدىً ......... و صَلاةٌ في شُغلٍ .

Imam Ja‘far al-Ṣadiq (as):

The believer possesses strength in his religion, prudence in his leniency, faith in conviction, an avid desire for religious understanding, activity in [matters pertaining to] guidance... and prayer during times of preoccupation.

الإمام جعفر الصادق (عليه السَّلام ):

حرامٌ على قلوبِكُم أنْ تعرِفَ حَلاوةَ الإيمانِ حتّى تَزهَدَ في الدّنيا .

Imam Ja‘far al-Ṣadiq (as):

It is prohibited for your hearts to experience the sweetness of faith until they abstain from this world [i.e. its pleasures].

لا يجِدُ الرّجلُ حلاوةَ الإيمانِ في قَلبهِ حتّى لا يُباليَ مَن أكلَ الدُّنيا .

The Prophet Muhammad (S):

A person will never savour the taste of faith until he does not care who gets to have and enjoy [the bounties of] this world.

لا يَجدُ عَبدٌ طعمَ الإيمانِ حتّى يَعلمَ أنَّ ما أصابَهُ لم يكُن لِيُخطِئَهُ ، وََأنَّ ما أخطأهُ لم يكُن ليُصيبَهُ، وََأنَّ الضّارَّ النّافِعَ هوَ اللّهُ عزّ و جلّ .

Imam Ali (as):

A servant will never savour the taste of faith until he knows that that which afflicts him would never have missed him, and that that which has missed him would never have touched him, and that the only One to induce harm and benefit is Allah, Mighty and Exalted.
