وَ أَمَّا حَقُّ الصَّغِيرِ فَرَحْمَتُهُ وَ تَثْقِيفُهُ وَ تَعْلِيمُهُ وَ الْعَفْوُ عَنْهُ وَ السَّتْرُ عَلَيْهِ وَ الرِّفْقُ بِهِ وَ الْمَعُونَةُ لَهُ وَ السَّتْرُ عَلَى جَرَائِرِ حَدَاثَتِهِ فَإِنَّهُ سَبَبٌ لِلتَّوْبَةِ وَ الْمُدَارَاةُ لَهُ وَ تَرْكُ مُمَاحَكَتِهِ فَإِنَّ ذَلِكَ أَدْنَى لِرُشْدِه .‏
Imam al-Sajjad (as):
The right of a youngster is that you should show mercy to him educate him well, teach him and pardon him, cover his faults and treat him gently, help him and conceal the offences of his young age [from others], for this will cause him to repent, you should also treat him amicably and avoid quarreling with him for that is more likely to rectify him.

Get beautiful wet-nurses to suckle your child and keep away from ugly ones, for verily the milk has an effect [on the child].

The Prophet Muhammad (S):
Were it not for the praying servants of Allah, the young suckling children, and the grazing animals, punishment would pour down on you.

في وَصِيَّتِه لِابنِه الحَسَنِ عليه السلام: إنَّما قَلبُ الحَدَثِ كالأرضِ الخالِيَةِ ما القِيَ فيها مِن شَي‏ءٍ قَبِلَتهُ، فبادَرتُكَ بِالأدَبِ قَبلَ أن يَقسُوَ قَلبُكَ، ويَشتَغِلَ لُبُّكَ.
Imam Ali (as):
Imam Ali (AS) said in his will to his son, al-Hasan (AS), ‘Verily the heart of a youngster is like an empty plot of land - it accepts whatever is planted therein. This is why I have started to teach you good manners before your heart is hardened and your soul is preoccupied.'

مَثَلُ الّذي يَتَعلّمُ في صِغَرهِ كَالنَّقْشِ في الحَجَرِ، وَ مَثَلُ الّذي يَتَعلّمُ في كِبَرِهِ كَالّذي يَكتُبُ على الماءِ.

The similitude of one who learns in his childhood is like carving on stone, whereas the similitude of one who learns in old age is like writing on water.
