رسولُ اللّه صلی‏ الله ‏علیه و ‏آله : قالُوا [الحَوارِیّونَ لعیسی علیه السلام] : یا رُوحَ اللّه، فمَن نُجالِسُ إذا؟ قالَ: مَن یُذَکِّرُکُمُ اللّه‏َ رُؤیَتُهُ، و یَزیدُ فی عِلْمِکُم منطِقُهُ و یُرَغِّبُکُم فی الآخِرَةِ عَمَلُهُ.
The Prophet Muhammad (S):
It has been narrated by Imam Sadiq (a.s) that the Messenger of God (PBUH) said: The Apostles asked Jesus: Oh spirit of God! Whose company are we to keep? Jesus replied: One whose sight makes you remember God, whose speech adds to your knowledge and whose conduct makes you yearn for the Hereafter.

Imam Ali (as):
If you spurn a person who wants you, you reduce your designated share. If you want a person who spurns you, you humiliate yourself.

مَوَدَّةُ الْآبَاءِ قَرَابَةٌ بَيْنَ الْأَبْنَاءِ وَ الْقَرَابَةُ إِلَى الْمَوَدَّةِ أَحْوَجُ مِنَ الْمَوَدَّةِ إِلَى الْقَرَابَةِ
Imam Ali (as):
Mutual love between fathers creates a form of kinship between their sons. And love does not need kinship so much as kinship needs love.

Your friends are three and your enemies are (also) three; Your friends are: your friend, your friend's friend and your enemy's enemy. And your enemies are: your enemy, your friend's enemy and your enemy's friend

Do not associate with a fool because he will beautify his actions before you and long that you too be like him.

أَحْبِبْ حَبِيبَكَ هَوْناً مَا عَسَى أَنْ يَكُونَ بَغِيضَكَ يَوْماً مَا وَ أَبْغِضْ بَغِيضَكَ هَوْناً مَا عَسَى أَنْ يَكُونَ حَبِيبَكَ يَوْماً مَا
Imam Ali (as):
Have love for your friend up to a limit, for it is possible that he may turn into your enemy some day; and hate your enemy up to a limit for it is possible that he may turn into your friend some day.

One’s attempt to lure his friend into wrongdoing and corruption results from the lack of divine succor.

إِيَّاكَ أَنْ تُخْرِجَ صَدِيقَكَ إِخْرَاجاً تُخْرِجُهُ عَنْ مَوَدَّتِكَ وَ اسْتَبْقِ لَهُ مِنْ أُنْسِكَ مَوْضِعاً يَثِقُ بِالرُّجُوعِ إِلَيْهِ .
Imam Ali (as):
Beware of completely cutting off relations with your friend and excluding him from your amity, rather you should at least leave a place for him in your heart, so he can feel confidant enough to return to it one day.
