"وقد جاءه نعي الاْشتر رحمه الله: مَالكٌ وَمَا مَالِكٌ! وَاللهِ لَوْ كَانَ جَبَلاً لَكَانَ فِنْداً، وَلَوْ كَانَ حَجَراً لَكَانَ صَلْداً، لاَ يَرْتَقِيهِ الْحَافِرُ، وَلاَ يُوفِي عَلَيْهِ الطَّائِرُ "
Imam Ali (as):
When news arrived of Mālik al-Ashtar’s death, ʿAlī exclaimed: Mālik, O Mālik, O what a man! If he were a mountain, he would be a towering peak that no hoof could ascend, no bird could fly over.

To complain to a believer is to complain to God. To complain to an unbeliever is to complain about God.

Imam Muhammad al-Baqir (as):
God Almighty has not created any creature dearer to Him than the believer, for the angels are the servants of the believers.

سِبَابُ الْمُؤْمِنِ‏ فُسُوقٌ‏ ، وَ قِتَالُهُ كُفْرٌ، وَ أَكْلُ لَحْمِهِ مَعْصِيَةٌ ، وَ حُرْمَةُ مَالِهِ كَحُرْمَةِ دَمِهِ.
Imam Ja‘far al-Ṣadiq (as):
Insulting a believer is a gross iniquity, killing him is infidelity, and backbiting him is an act of disobedience of Allah, and the sanctity of his property is like that of his blood [his property must be safe and protected just as his blood is revered and preserved from being spilt].

مَنْ رَوى‏ عَلى‏ مُؤْمِنٍ رِوَايَةً يُرِيدُ بِهَا شَيْنَهُ وَ هَدْمَ‏ مُرُوءَتِهِ لِيَسْقُطَ مِنْ أَعْيُنِ النَّاسِ، أَخْرَجَهُ اللَّهُ مِنْ وَلَايَتِهِ‏ إِلى‏ وَلَايَةِ الشَّيْطَانِ، فَلَا يَقْبَلُهُ الشَّيْطَانُ.
Imam Ja‘far al-Ṣadiq (as):
Whoever relates something about his brother intending to defame him and tarnish his integrity and discredit him in the eyes of people, Allah will bring him out of His guardianship and into that of Satan, but then even Satan will not accept him.
