"وقد جاءه نعي الاْشتر رحمه الله: مَالكٌ وَمَا مَالِكٌ! وَاللهِ لَوْ كَانَ جَبَلاً لَكَانَ فِنْداً، وَلَوْ كَانَ حَجَراً لَكَانَ صَلْداً، لاَ يَرْتَقِيهِ الْحَافِرُ، وَلاَ يُوفِي عَلَيْهِ الطَّائِرُ "
Imam Ali (as):
When news arrived of Mālik al-Ashtar’s death, ʿAlī exclaimed: Mālik, O Mālik, O what a man! If he were a mountain, he would be a towering peak that no hoof could ascend, no bird could fly over.

الْمَنِيَّةُ وَلاَ الدَّنِيَّةُ وَالتّقَلُّلُ وَلاَ التَّوَسُّلُ وَمَنْ لَمْ يُعْطَ قَاعِداً لَمْ يُعْطَ قَائِماً
Imam Ali (as):
Death, not shame! Poverty, not begging! Someone who doesn’t receive while sitting will not receive when standing.

Imam Ali (as):
Think of the dignity of your countenance as water frozen in place until melted away by solicitation—to whom will you offer its droplets?

عنه عليه السلام ـ و قد قالَ لَهُ مُعاذُ بنُ كثيرٍ بَيّاعُ الأكْسِيَةِ: إنّي قد هَمَمْتُ أنْ أدَعَ السُّوقَ و في يَدي شَيءٌ ـ : إذَنْ يَسْقُطَ رأيُكَ و لا يُسْتعانَ بكَ على شيءٍ .
Imam Ja‘far al-Ṣadiq (as):
Imam al-Sadiq (as), when the clothes merchant, Muadh b. Kathir told him, 'I have decided to leave the market while I have some money in hand', said, 'Then regard for you will fall and you will not be sought for help with anything.'

Imam Ja‘far al-Ṣadiq (as):
Verily Allah, Blessed and most High, has placed everything at the disposal of the believer except that which brings disgrace upon him.

عَلَيكُم بِالعَفوِ ؛ فَإنَّ العَفوَ لا يَزيدُ العَبدَ إلاّ عِزّا ، فَتَعافَوا يُعِزَّكُمُ اللّهُ .
The Prophet Muhammad (S):
Pardoning is incumbent upon you, for verily pardoning [others] only increases one's honour, so pardon each other’s faults and Allah will grant you honour.

Imam al-Kazim (as):
Imam al-Kazim (as) said to a man who asked him for advice: Guard your tongue and you will gain honour, and do not hand your control over to people lest you be abased.

Every single servant who swallows his anger is increased in honour by Allah, Mighty and Exalted, in this world and in the Hereafter.

ثَلاثٌ لا يَزيدُ اللّهُ بِهِنَّ المَرءَ المُسلِمَ إلاّ عِزّا : الصَّفحُ عَمَّن ظَلَمَهُ ، و إعطاءُ مَن حَرَمَهُ ، و الصِّلَةُ لِمَن قَطَعَهُ .
Imam Muhammad al-Baqir (as):
There are three things through which Allah only increases the Muslim in honour: his pardon of one who has wronged him, his giving to the one who has deprived him, and his reconciliation with one who has cut him off.
