الإمام علي (عليه السَّلام):

وَ بَنَى رَجُلٌ مِنْ عُمَّالِهِ بِنَاءً فَخْماً فَقَالَ [عليه السلام] أَطْلَعَتِ الْوَرِقُ رُءُوسَهَا إِنَّ الْبِنَاءَ يَصِفُ لَكَ الْغِنَى

Imam Ali (as):

One of ʿAlī governors built a grand mansion, and ʿAlī said to him in rebuke: Here are silver dirhams displaying their faces! The mansion speaks loudly of your wealth.

الامام الحسین (علیه السلام):

مَجَارِيَ الْأُمُورِ وَ الْأَحْكَامِ عَلَى أَيْدِي الْعُلَمَاءِ بِاللَّهِ الْأُمَنَاءِ عَلَى حَلَالِهِ وَ حَرَامِه‏.

Imam al-Hussain (as):

The disposal of affairs and implementation of rules are in the hands of theist scholars; [who are] the trustees of what has been made lawful and unlawful by Allah.

رسول الله (صلی الله علیه و آله):

لاَ تَصْلُحُ اَلْإِمَامَةُ إِلاَّ لِرَجُلٍ فِيهِ ثَلاَثُ خِصَالٍ وَرَعٌ يَحْجُزُهُ عَنْ مَعَاصِي اَللَّهِ وَ حِلْمٌ يَمْلِكُ بِهِ غَضَبَهُ وَ حُسْنُ اَلْوِلاَيَةِ عَلَى مَنْ يَلِي حَتَّى يَكُونَ لَهُمْ كَالْوَالِدِ اَلرَّحِيمِ. وَ فِي رِوَايَةٍ أُخْرَى حَتَّى يَكُونَ لِلرَّعِيَّةِ كَالْأَبِ اَلرَّحِيمِ .

The Prophet Muhammad (S):

None is worthy of leadership except for a man who has three characteristics: piety that prevents him from disobeying Allah, clemency with which he controls his anger, and maintaining excellent guardianship towards his people, such that he treats them like a compassionate father.

الإمام جعفر الصادق (عليه السَّلام ):

ثَلاثَةٌ لا يُكَلِّمُهُمُ اللّهُ يومَ القِيامَةِ و لا يُزَكِّيهِمْ وَ لَهُمْ عَذابٌ ألِيمٌ : مَنِ ادّعى إمامةً مِنَ اللّهِ لَيسَتْ لَهُ ، و مَنْ جَحَدَ إماما مِنَ اللّهِ ، و مَنْ زَعَمَ أنّ لَهُما في الإسلامِ نَصيبا .

Imam Ja‘far al-Ṣadiq (as):

Allah will not speak to three types of people on the Day of Resurrection, nor will He purify them, and there will be a painful punishment for them: one who falsely claims the position of Imama [i.e. Leadership] endorsed by Allah, one who rejects an Imam endorsed by Allah, and one who assumes that these two have any share in Islam.

الإمام علي (عليه السَّلام):

إِنَّ اللَّهَ- عَزَّ و جَلَّ- فَرَضَ عَلى‏ أَئِمَّةِ الْعَدْلِ أَنْ يُقَدِّرُوا أَنْفُسَهُمْ بِضَعَفَةِ النَّاسِ كَيْلَا يَتَبَيَّغَ‏ بِالْفَقِيرِ فَقْرُهُ.

Imam Ali (as):

Allah, most High, has made it obligatory upon the leaders of justice to equate themselves with the weak ones from among people, so that the poor are not intimidated as a result of their poverty.

مَنْ أَرْضى‏ سُلْطَاناً بِسَخَطِ اللَّهِ، خَرَجَ مِنْ دِينِ اللَّهِ‏.

Imam Ja‘far al-Ṣadiq (as):

One who pleases a ruler at the cost of displeasing Allah, excludes himself from the religion of Allah.

الْعَدْلُ أَحْلى‏ مِنَ الْمَاءِ يُصِيبُهُ الظَّمْآنُ؛ مَا أَوْسَعَ الْعَدْلَ إِذَا عُدِلَ فِيهِ وَ إِنْ قَلَّ.

Imam Ja‘far al-Ṣadiq (as):

Justice is sweeter than water to a thirsty man. How relieving justice is when it is served even if it be little.

The status of the heart to the body is the same as that of a leader among people.

مِن عَهدِهِ إلى بعضِ عُمّالِهِ: إنَّ أعظَمَ الخِيانَةِ خِيانَةُ الامَّةِ، وأفظَعَ الغِشِّ غِشُّ الأئمَّةِ.

Imam Ali (as):

Imam Ali (as) said in his instruction to one of his representatives, ‘Verily the worst act of treachery is the treachery against a Muslim community, and the worst act of swindling is swindling one’s leaders.
