إنَّ اللّهَ عزّ و جلّ خَلقَ النّاسَ كُلَّهُم على الفِطْرَةِ الّتي فَطَرهُم علَيها ، لا يَعرِفونَ إيمانا بشريعةٍ و لا كُفرا بِجُحودٍ ، ثُمّ بَعثَ اللّهُ الرُّسلَ تَدعو العِبادَ إلى الإيمانِ بهِ، فمِنْهُم مَن هدى اللّهُ و مِنْهُم مَن لَم يَهْدِهِ اللّهُ .

Imam Ja‘far al-Ṣadiq (as):

Allah, Mighty and Exalted, created all people according to the divine nature upon which He originated them, while they knew neither belief in religion nor disbelief and denial of faith, until Allah sent messengers to invite people to belief in Him, then Allah guided some of them and left some others misguided.
