إِنَّكُمْ لاَ تُدْرِكُونَ مَا تُحِبُّونَ إِلاَّ بِصَبْرِكُمْ عَلَى مَا تَكْرَهُونَ.

:

"Jesus (PBUH) said: Verily you will not attain that which you love except through having patience with that which you hate."

Imam Ali (as):

Life consists of two days: one day is for you, another is against you. When things are working in your favor, don’t swagger. When things are going against you, be patient.

[وَ قَدْ عَزَّى الْأَشْعَثَ بْنَ قَيْسٍ عَنِ ابْنٍ لَهُ] يَا أَشْعَثُ إِنْ صَبَرْتَ جَرَى عَلَيْكَ الْقَدَرُ وَ أَنْتَ مَأْجُورٌ وَ إِنْ جَزِعْتَ جَرَى عَلَيْكَ الْقَدَرُ وَ أَنْتَ مَأْزُورٌ

Imam Ali (as):

[Giving condolences to Ash'ath ibn Qays on the death of his son, Imam Ali said:] O Ash'ath! If you endure, Allah's decree will come upon you but in that case, you will receive the reward, whereas if you lose patience, Allah's decree will overtake you anyway but in that case you will have committed a sin.

Neighbourliness is not only to desist from annoying [one's neighbour], but also to forbear annoyance [from him].

الإمام محمد الباقر (عليه السَّلام):

الجَنّةُ مَحفوفةٌ بالمَكارِهِ و الصَّبرِ ، فمَن صَبرَ على المَكارِهِ في الدُّنيا دَخلَ الجَنّةَ . و جَهنّمُ مَحفوفةٌ باللَّذّاتِ و الشَّهَواتِ ، فمَن أعطى نَفْسَهُ لَذَّتَها و شَهْوَتَها دَخلَ النّارَ .

Imam Muhammad al-Baqir (as):

Paradise is surrounded by trials and patience. So whoever endures trials in the world will enter Paradise. Hell is surrounded by pleasures and desires. Thus, whoever allows himself its pleasures and desires [of the world] will enter the Fire.

الإمام جعفر الصادق (عليه السَّلام ):

اِصْبِرُوا على الدنيا فإنّما هِي ساعَةٌ ، فما مَضى مِنهُ فلا تَجِدُ لَهُ ألَما و لا سُرُورا ، و ما لَم يَجِئْ فلا تَدرِي ما هُو ؟ و إنّما هي ساعَتُكَ التي أنتَ فيها ، فاصبِرْ فيها على طاعَةِ اللّهِ ، و اصبِرْ فيها عن مَعصيَةِ اللّهِ .

Imam Ja‘far al-Ṣadiq (as):

Endure [the hardships and temptations of] this world, for it is no more than an hour. What has passed, you will find neither its pain nor its sorrow, and what is yet to come, you do not know what it will be like. The world is the hour in which you live; So be patient, in it, with acts of obedience to Allah, and resist against acts of disobedience to Allah.
