Imam Ali (as):
He who goes too far in a dispute is a sinner; he who falls short in it is oppressed; and the one who falls into a dispute often cannot be wary of his duty to God.

The person who is most likely to be reformed is the one who hastens to remedy his vices as soon as he becomes aware of them.

اقْصُرْ نَفْسَكَ عَمَّا يَضُرُّهَا مِنْ قَبْلِ أَنْ تُفَارِقَكَ، وَ اسْعَ فِي فَكَاكِهَا كَمَا تَسْعى‏ فِي طَلَبِ مَعِيشَتِكَ؛ فَإِنَّ نَفْسَكَ رَهِينَةٌ بِعَمَلِك‏ .
Imam Ja‘far al-Ṣadiq (as):
Keep your soul away from anything that could be harmful to it before it departs your body, and strive hard to set it free just as you strive to earn your livelihood, for verily your soul is hostage to your deeds.

مَا مِنْ شَابٍّ تَزَوَّجَ فِي حَدَاثَةِ سِنِّهِ إِلَّا عَجَّ شَيْطَانُهُ يَا وَيْلَهُ يَا وَيْلَهُ عَصَمَ مِنِّي ثُلُثَيْ دِينِهِ فَلْيَتَّقِ اللَّهَ الْعَبْدُ فِي الثُّلُثِ الْبَاقِي .
The Prophet Muhammad (S):
When a young person gets married at the prime of his youth, his inner Satan cries out in rage, ‘Woe unto him! Woe unto him! he has now secured two-thirds of his religion against me.’ So he has only to be wary of his duty to Allah in the remaining one-third.

فِي الْقَلْبِ نُورٌ لَا يُضِي‏ءُ إِلَّا مِنِ اتِّبَاعِ الْحَقِّ وَ قَصْدِ السَّبِيلِ وَ هُوَ نُورٌ مِنَ الْمُرْسَلِينَ الْأَنْبِيَاءِ مُوَدَّعٌ فِي قُلُوبِ الْمُؤْمِنِينَ.
The Prophet Muhammad (S):
There is a light in the hearts that does not illuminate unless through following the truth and the straight path; It is a ray from the light of the prophets that has been deposited in the hearts of the believers.

أَمَّا عَلَامَةُ الْعِلْمِ فَأَرْبَعَةٌ الْعِلْمُ بِاللَّهِ وَ الْعِلْمُ بِمُحِبِّيهِ وَ الْعِلْمُ بِفَرَائِضِهِ وَ الْحِفْظُ لَهَا حَتَّى تُؤَدَّى‏.
The Prophet Muhammad (S):
There are four signs of knowledge: knowing Allah, knowing those who love Him, knowledge of obligations [laid down by] Allah, and attending to them until one fulfils them.

عَلَامَةُ الْإِيمَانِ أَنْ تُؤْثِرَ الصِّدْقَ حَيْثُ يَضُرُّكَ عَلَى الْكَذِبِ حَيْثُ يَنْفَعُكَ وَ أَنْ لَا يَكُونَ فِي حَدِيثِكَ فَضْلٌ عَنْ عِلْمِكَ وَ أَنْ تَتَّقِيَ اللَّهَ فِي حَدِيثِ غَيْرِكَ.
Imam Ali (as):
Faith is to prefer to tell the truth, even if it be to your detriment, over lying even though it be to your benefit, that your speech does not exceed the limits of your knowledge, and that you fear Allah when narrating the statements of others.
