مَنْ بَالَغَ فِى الْخُصُومَةِ أَثِمَ وَ مَنْ قَصَّرَ فِيهَا ظُلِمَ وَ لَا يَسْتَطِيعُ أَنْ يَتَّقِيَ اللَّهَ مَنْ خَاصَمَ
Imam Ali (as):
He who goes too far in a dispute is a sinner; he who falls short in it is oppressed; and the one who falls into a dispute often cannot be wary of his duty to God.

Imam Ali (as):
Imam Ali (AS) saw a man busy against his enemy with what was harmful to himself too, so he said: You are like one who pierces a spear through himself in order to kill the person sitting behind him.

لَا تُبْدِي‏ الشَّمَاتَةَ لِأَخِيكَ؛ فَيَرْحَمَهُ اللَّهُ، وَ يُصَيِّرَهَا بِكَ». وَ قَالَ: «مَنْ شَمِتَ بِمُصِيبَةٍ نَزَلَتْ بِأَخِيهِ، لَمْ يَخْرُجْ مِنَ الدُّنْيَا حَتّى‏ يُفْتَتَنَ.
Imam Ja‘far al-Ṣadiq (as):
Do not express malicious gloating at your brother [for a sin or misfortune] for Allah will have mercy on him as a result and make it befall you instead.’ He also said, ‘He who gloats over an affliction that has befallen his brother will not leave this world until he is tried similarly.

Beware of disputation and argument, for they sicken the hearts against brothers, and hypocrisy grows from them.
