الإمام علي (عليه السَّلام):

مَنْ بَالَغَ فِى الْخُصُومَةِ أَثِمَ وَ مَنْ قَصَّرَ فِيهَا ظُلِمَ وَ لَا يَسْتَطِيعُ أَنْ يَتَّقِيَ اللَّهَ مَنْ خَاصَمَ

Imam Ali (as):

He who goes too far in a dispute is a sinner; he who falls short in it is oppressed; and the one who falls into a dispute often cannot be wary of his duty to God.

لِرَجُلٍ رَآهُ يَسْعَى عَلَى عَدُوٍّ لَهُ بِمَا فِيهِ إِضْرَارٌ بِنَفْسِهِ إِنَّمَا أَنْتَ كَالطَّاعِنِ نَفْسَهُ لِيَقْتُلَ رِدْفَهُ

Imam Ali (as):

Imam Ali (AS) saw a man busy against his enemy with what was harmful to himself too, so he said: You are like one who pierces a spear through himself in order to kill the person sitting behind him.

Imam Muhammad al-Baqir (as):

Love for us (i.e. Ahl al-Bayt) is faith, and enmity towards us is disbelief.

Imam Muhammad al-Baqir (as):

One’s regret for having pardoned someone is better and easier [to bear] than his regret for having punished them.

رسول الله (صلی الله علیه و آله):

تَهادَوا ؛ فإنَّ الهَدِيَّةَ تَسِلُّ السَّخائمَ ، و تُجلي ضَغائنَ العَداوَةِ وَ الأحقادِ .

The Prophet Muhammad (S):

Give gifts to each other, for it clears away resentment, and removes grudges caused by animosity and hatred.

تَصَافَحُوا؛ فَإِنَّهَا تَذْهَبُ بِالسَّخِيمَةِ.

Imam Ja‘far al-Ṣadiq (as):

Shake hands with each other [upon meeting] for verily it takes away resentment.

الإمام جعفر الصادق (عليه السَّلام ):

لَا تُبْدِي‏ الشَّمَاتَةَ لِأَخِيكَ؛ فَيَرْحَمَهُ اللَّهُ، وَ يُصَيِّرَهَا بِكَ». وَ قَالَ: «مَنْ شَمِتَ بِمُصِيبَةٍ نَزَلَتْ بِأَخِيهِ، لَمْ يَخْرُجْ مِنَ الدُّنْيَا حَتّى‏ يُفْتَتَنَ.

Imam Ja‘far al-Ṣadiq (as):

Do not express malicious gloating at your brother [for a sin or misfortune] for Allah will have mercy on him as a result and make it befall you instead.’ He also said, ‘He who gloats over an affliction that has befallen his brother will not leave this world until he is tried similarly.
