اَلْقُلُوبُ إِذَا لَمْ تَخْرِقْهَا اَلشَّهَوَاتُ أَوْ يُدَنِّسْهَا اَلطَّمَعُ أَوْ يُقْسِهَا اَلنَّعِيمُ فَسَوْفَ تَكُونُ أَوْعِيَةَ اَلْحِكْمَةِ

:

"Jesus (PBUH) said: As long as hearts do not become torn apart by desires, stained by greed and hardened by material goods, they will become vessels of deep wisdom."

لاَ خَيْرَ فِي الصَّمْتِ عَنِ الْحُكْمِ، كَمَا أنَّهُ لاَ خَيْرَ فِي الْقَوْلِ بِالْجَهْلِ

Imam Ali (as):

There is no good in keeping silent when you can offer wisdom, just as there is no good in speaking with ignorance.

Wisdom is a tree that grows in the heart and produces fruit on the tongue.

Seek to acquire wisdom and wear the garment of tranquility for they are the adornments of the righteous.

الْفَضَائِلُ أَرْبَعَةُ أَجْنَاسٍ أَحَدُهَا الْحِكْمَةُ وَ قِوَامُهَا فِي الْفِكْرَةِ وَ الثَّانِي الْعِفَّةُ وَ قِوَامُهَا فِي الشَّهْوَةِ وَ الثَّالِثُ الْقُوَّةُ وَ قِوَامُهَا فِي الْغَضَبِ وَ الرَّابِعُ الْعَدْلُ وَ قِوَامُهُ فِي اعْتِدَالِ قُوَى النَّفْسِ.

Imam Ali (as):

There are four types of merits: the first is wisdom, and its basis is thinking. The second is chastity, and its basis is desire. The third is power, and its basis is anger. The fourth is justice, and its basis is moderation in the faculties of the self.

أَحْيِ قَلْبَكَ بِالْمَوْعِظَةِ وَ أَمِتْهُ بِالزَّهَادَةِ وَ قَوِّهِ بِالْيَقِينِ وَ نَوِّرْهُ بِالْحِكْمَةِ وَ ذَلِّلْهُ بِذِكْرِ الْمَوْتِ وَ قَرِّرْهُ بِالْفَنَاءِ وَ بَصِّرْهُ فَجَائِعَ الدُّنْيَا.

Imam Ali (as):

Revive your heart with exhortations, and kill it will asceticism, strengthen it with conviction, enlighten it with wisdom, subdue it by remembering death, make it acknowledge mortality, make it see the misfortunate of this world.

الإمام جعفر الصادق (عليه السَّلام ):

مَنْ زَهِدَ فِي الدُّنْيَا أَثْبَتَ اللَّهُ الْحِكْمَةَ فِي قَلْبِهِ وَ أَنْطَقَ بِهَا لِسَانَهُ وَ بَصَّرَهُ عُيُوبَ الدُّنْيَا دَاءَهَا وَ دَوَاءَهَا وَ أَخْرَجَهُ مِنَ الدُّنْيَا سَالِماً إِلَى دَارِ السَّلَامِ.

Imam Ja‘far al-Ṣadiq (as):

Whoever abstains from worldly pleasures, Allah will establish wisdom in his heart, make it flow from his tongue, open his eyes to the flaws of the world, its ailment and its remedy, and will take him out of the world safely into the Abode of Peace.

إِذَا جَلَسْتَ إِلَى عَالِمٍ فَكُنْ عَلَى أَنْ تَسْمَعَ أَحْرَصَ مِنْكَ عَلَى أَنْ تَقُولَ وَ تَعَلَّمْ حُسْنَ الِاسْتِمَاعِ كَمَا تَتَعَلَّمُ حُسْنَ الْقَوْلِ وَ لَا تَقْطَعْ عَلَى أَحَدٍ حَدِيثَه‏

Imam Muhammad al-Baqir (as):

When you sit in the company of a scholar, be more eager to listen [to his words of wisdom] than to speak. And learn effective listening just as you learn good speech. And do not interrupt someone while they are speaking.

الإمام الرّضا (عليه السَّلام ):

إنّ العبدَ إذا اختارَهُ اللّهُ عزّ و جلّ لاُمورِ عبادِهِ شَرحَ صَدرَهُ لذلكَ ، و أودَعَ قلبَهُ يَنابِيعَ الحِكمةِ، و ألْهَمهُ العِلمَ إلهاما ، فلَم يَعْيَ بعدَهُ بجوابٍ و لا يَحيرُ فيهِ عنِ الصّوابِ .

Imam al-Reḍa (as):

Whenever Allah selects a person to manage the affairs of His creation, He opens his breast [endows him with tolerance] for that purpose, and he makes springs of wisdom flow in his heart, and bestows knowledge to him by way of inspiration, after which he never again lacks the ability to answer, nor is he confused from finding the right way out.
