الإمام جعفر الصادق (عليه السَّلام ):

كانَ فيما وَعَظَ اللّه ُ تَبارَكَ و تَعالى بهِ عيسَى بنَ مريمَ عليه السلام أن قالَ له : ... يا عيسى ، كُنْ حَيثُما كُنتَ مُراقِبا لي

Imam Ja‘far al-Ṣadiq (as):

"Imam Sadiq (PBUH) said: In addressing Jesus, God said: Oh Jesus, wherever you may be, keep me in view. "

إِنَّ اَلدَّابَّةَ إِذَا لَمْ تُرْكَبْ وَ لَمْ تُمْتَهَنْ وَ تُسْتَعْمَلْ لَتَصْعُبُ وَ يَتَغَيَّرُ خُلُقُهَا وَ كَذَلِكَ اَلْقُلُوبُ إِذَا لَمْ تُرَقَّقْ بِذِكْرِ اَلْمَوْتِ وَ يَتْبَعْهَا دُءُوبُ اَلْعِبَادَةِ تَقْسُو وَ تَغْلُظُ

:

Jesus (PBUH) said: When a mule is left unridden, unworked, and unloaded for a long time, its nature will change and will become bad-tempered. Hearts are just the same, when they are not softened by the remembrance of death followed by the perseverance of worship, they will become rough and hardened.

وقال عليه السلام في بعض الاَعيَاد: إِنَّمَا هُوَ عِيدٌ لِمَنْ قَبلَ اللهُ صِيَامَهُ وَشَكَرَ قِيَامَهُ، وَكُلُّ يَوْمٍ لاَ يُعْصَى اللهُ فِيهِ فَهُوَ يَوْمَ عِيدٍ

Imam Ali (as):

Imam Ali (AS) said regarding one of the festivals, ‘Verily it is only a festival for he whose fasts Allah has accepted and whose prayers He has acknowledged, and every day in which we do not disobey Allah is a day of celebration.’

لِلْمُؤْمِنِ ثَلاَثُ سَاعَات: فَسَاعَةٌ يُنَاجِي فِيهَا رَبَّهُ، وَسَاعَةٌ يَرُمُّ مَعَاشَهُ، وَسَاعَةٌ يُخَلِّي بَيْنَ نَفْسِهِ وَبَيْنَ لَذَّتِهَا فِيَما يَحِلُّ وَيَجْمُلُ

Imam Ali (as):

The believer divides his time into three parts: in one part, he communes with his Lord, in another, he seeks his livelihood, and in the third, he allows himself to enjoy pleasures that are licit and good.

Be strong in your obedience to God. Be weak in your transgression of his prohibitions.

Beware lest God see you where he is disobeyed and not find you where he is obeyed, or else you will be one of the losers.

God has made obedience to him a prize for the wise at a time when the weak are remiss.

إِنَّ لِلْقُلُوبِ إِقْبَالًا وَ إِدْبَاراً فَإِذَا أَقْبَلَتْ فَاحْمِلُوهَا عَلَى النَّوَافِلِ وَ إِذَا أَدْبَرَتْ فَاقْتَصِرُوا بِهَا عَلَى الْفَرَائِضِ

Imam Ali (as):

Hearts have [the capacity to] incline [to worship] and to retract, so when they incline, then get them to perform the supererogatory, and when they retract, then keep them confined to the obligatory.
