صَنَعَ عِيسَى عَلَيْهِ السَّلاَمُ لِلْحَوَارِيِّينَ طَعَاماً فَلَمَّا أَكَلُوا وَضَّاهُمْ بِنَفْسِهِ وَ قَالُوا يَا رُوحَ اَللَّهِ نَحْنُ أَوْلَى أَنْ نَفْعَلَهُ مِنْكَ قَالَ إِنَّمَا فَعَلْتُ هَذَا لِتَفْعَلُوهُ بِمَنْ تُعَلِّمُونَ.

:

Jesus (PBUH) prepared some food for the Apostles. When they were done eating, he himself washed their hands. They said: Oh spirit of God, it was our duty to wash your hands. Jesus (Peace be upon him) said: This I did so that you treat your disciples in the very same way.

أَعْقَلُ النَّاسِ مَنْ ذَلَّ لِلْحَقِّ فَأَعْطَاهُ مِنْ نَفْسِهِ وَ عَزَّ بِالْحَقِّ فَلَمْ يَهُنْ عَنْ إِقَامَتِه .‏

Imam Ali (as):

The most intelligent of people is the one who is submissive towards what is right, and gives the right due from his own self, seeks honor by means of the truth and never gets tired of upholding the truth.

مُنَاصِحُكَ مُشْفِقٌ عَلَيْكَ مُحَسِنٌ إِلَيْكَ نَاظِرٌ فِي عَوَاقِبِكَ مُسْتَدْرِكٌ فَوَارِطَكَ فَفِي طَاعَتِهِ رَشَادُكَ وَ فِي مُخَالَفَتِهِ فَسَادُكَ .

Imam Ali (as):

One who offers you good advice is being sympathetic towards you, doing you a favor, taking your future into consideration and trying to correct your shortcomings, thus, in his obedience, lies your progress and, in his defiance, lies your corruption.

رسول الله (صلی الله علیه و آله):

أَمَّا عَلَامَةُ الْخَاشِعِ فَأَرْبَعَةٌ مُرَاقَبَةُ اللَّهِ فِي السِّرِّ وَ الْعَلَانِيَةِ وَ رُكُوبُ الْجَمِيلِ وَ التَّفَكُّرُ لِيَوْمِ الْقِيَامَةِ وَ الْمُنَاجَاةُ لِلَّه‏.

The Prophet Muhammad (S):

There are four distinguishing marks of the humble ones: they are constantly mindful of God in private as well as in public, they carry out good works, they reflect on the Day of Resurrection, and engage in intimate supplication with Allah.

رسول الله (صلی الله علیه و آله):

مَنْ طَلَبَ الْعِلْمَ لِلَّهِ لَمْ يُصِبْ مِنْهُ بَاباً إِلَّا ازْدَادَ بِهِ فِي نَفْسِهِ ذُلًّا وَ فِي النَّاسِ تَوَاضُعاً وَ لِلَّهِ خَوْفاً وَ فِي الدِّينِ اجْتِهَاداً وَ ذَلِكَ الَّذِي يَنْتَفِعُ بِالْعِلْمِ فَلْيَتَعَلَّمْه‏.

The Prophet Muhammad (S):

He who seeks knowledge for Allah, no sooner does he learn even a chapter of it than it increases him in humility within himself, in humbleness in front of people, it increases his fear of Allah and his striving in religion, and that is the one who benefits from the knowledge, so he should acquire it.

عنه عليه السلام ـ في صِفَةِ المُؤمِنِ ـ : كُلُّ سَعيٍ أخلَصُ عِندَهُ مِن سَعيِهِ، و كُلُّ نَفسٍ أصلَحُ عِندَهُ مِن نَفسِهِ .

Imam Ali (as):

Describing the believer, Imam al-Sadiq (as) said, 'Any effort [exerted by others] seems more sincere to him than his own efforts, and any person [he meets] seems more righteous to him then his own self.'
