الإمام علي (عليه السَّلام):
المؤمنُ بِشْرُهُ في وجهِهِ، و حُزنُهُ في قلبِهِ، أوسَعُ شَيءٍ صَدْرا، و أذَلُّ شَي ءٍ نَفْسا، يَكْرَهُ الرِّفْعةَ، و يَشْنَأُ السُّمْعةَ، طويلٌ غمُّهُ، بَعيدٌ هَمُّهُ، كثيرٌ صَمتُهُ، مَشغولٌ وقتُهُ، شَكورٌ، صَبورٌ، مَغمورٌ بفِكرَتِهِ، ضَنينٌ بخَلّتِهِ، سَهلُ الخَليقةِ، لَيِّنُ العَرِيكةِ، نَفسُهُ أصْلَبُ مِن الصَّلْدِ، و هُو أذَلُّ مِن العبدِ.
Mientras que su dolor está en su corazón. Su pecho está en su punto más ancho [es decir su corazón más grande] pero su ego está en su punto más bajo. Desprecia el alto rango y evita la reputación. Su dolor es duradero y su ambición es sublime. Su silencio es mucho y su tiempo ocupado. Él está agradecido, extremadamente paciente e inmerso en un pensamiento profundo. Él es ahorrativo con sus necesidades. Él es bondadoso y de carácter apacible. Su alma es más firme que el acero mientras él [es decir su ego] permanece más bajo que un esclavo.

Abū l-Ḥasan Muḥammad b. al-Ḥusayn al-Mūsawī (Arabic: أبوالحسن محمد بن الحسین الموسوي) (b. 359/969-70 - d. Muharram 6, 406/June 26, 1015) al-Sharīf al-Raḍī (Arabic: الشريف الرضي) was a prominent Shi'a scholar and poet born in Baghdad. Although he is most known for his literary expertise, he was also an expert of jurisprudence and exegesis of the Quran. His most famous work is Nahj al-Balagha, a collection of Imam Ali's (a) sayings and letters. He founded a school named Dar al-'Ilm ( دار العلم, literally "House of knowledge") in which he trained many students, some of whom later became prominent scholars.
